Richard Fitzherbert has been with the FoodFlo production team for over 22 years. You will often find him in the coating room where he specialises in making sure our products have the required finish and barriers, including confectionery fat, cocoa butter and a range of chocolates or in general production & mentoring new staff and showing them the little tips and tricks that make the process easier and more efficient.
We sat down with him to ask him some questions, not just about coatings and how fantastic they can be, but about the person behind the task.
What do you like most about your job?
The people I work with, but also being able to produce a high-quality product for our customers. I have pride in what we actually produce.
What advice would you give to a new staff member?
Give it time. Get a pattern down. Don’t be afraid to be proud of what you do.
What was the most recent app you have downloaded?
Marine Weather – for out on the fishing boat. We do a fishing trip with friends up in the Coromandel every year. 25 years running. Friends are important.
What is the best meal you have ever had?
My wife makes a mean Pork Ball. The whole family turn up when they hear it is on the menu. It has this special sauce and served with veggies and things on top.
Do you have a favourite family tradition?
Holidays together. That and going to the stock cars. We don’t cheer for any specific car; we go for the enjoyment of the lot. My son has a Mini Stock.
What was you favourite childhood pastime? Is it still?
Probably playing sport. Cricket and Soccer. Yup! Those are my two favourites. I would love to still play them but I don’t. Love to be able to do it as well as I could. I still watch them though, and rugby!
How do you recharge?
Relaxing with my family, fishing, a nice walk.
What is your Favourite Lesson that you have learnt this year?
Probably every year I would say for this one, - You are never too old to learn something new.
What is the best way to give you feedback?
Talk to me!
